So many destinations, so little time. For most travelers, it’s not a case of if you’ll; it’s not a case of when you’ll go; it’s only a question of: where?

Where do you choose for that dream holiday? Where do you select for that once-in-a-lifetime adventure, that relaxing getaway, that ski trip, that road trip?

For cities to visit in the United States in 2017, Weekly Hotels team has put together a few answers. This year, it will be all about great experiences, all about immersing yourself in a destination, living like a local, of “doing” rather than just seeing. Here are top five of the cities to visit for those wonderful moments this year.

DENVER, COLORADO

Downtown Denver has the urban muscle and the Rocky Mountains have the outdoor might, making Denver one of the country’s most desirable and exciting places to visit. Visitors can spend the morning skiing, lunch in the afternoon in trendy LoDo and see a live performance at night in one of Denver’s many live music venues—all in one day. There are different attractions one can’t just resist in Denver, from Denver museums to Denver ski resorts, from Denver’s State Capital to Denver’s famous museums. For a museum unique to Denver, Capital Hill’s Molly Brown House Museum (the “unsinkable” Titanic survivor) pays homage to the raucous Denver woman’s life with docents in period costume and is one of the many must-see Denver attractions.

Throw a vibrant economy into the mix, and you get artsy districts like RiNo (River North) and LoHi (Lower Highlands), where you can replenish your calories in slow-food market halls, bookended by gallery hopping and a night out with some rootsy, denim-clad rockers. Take your time, because you will never run out of things to do in Denver, or find that there are no Denver activities to partake in.

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE

Nashville exudes a modest, down-to-earth vibe. It’s been characterized as a big back porch, teeming with storytellers and old timers picking on six strings. But one look at Hillsboro Village’s trendy boutiques and hipster bars proves that Nashville is not only for graying country crooners. Music City affords visitors a mix of grandstand glitz, down-home Southern hospitality and an energetic collegiate populace.

Melodious attractions like the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Musician’s Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry draw in plenty of tourists, but Nashville is also proud of its history. You should spend a day sightseeing — the Parthenon, a replica of the famous Greek structure that represents Nashville’s role as the Athens of the South, is a pretty good photo op. For those traveling with kids, the Adventure Science Center is a great place to spend an afternoon.
